The Fellowship of Reconciliation (England and Scotland), one of the oldest peace movements in the UK expressed despair and disappointment at the actions of Iran in the last 24hrs.
John Cooper, Director of the Fellowship, said:
“All politicians face a decision, to increase the noise of war or to turn towards acting for peace. The recent actions taken by the Iranian government last night only serve to exacerbate and escalate an already grievous situation.
We pray for everyone who now lives in increased fear for their peace and security. In Gaza or Israel no one should go to bed worrying about the safety of ones they love.
We call upon government leaders in the Middle East to demonstrate a genuine willingness to be partners in peace in accordance with what we believe to the be the desire of most residents of the region. Listen to your people. End violence. Work for peace and justice for all. It is the only way.”
The Fellowship also sends solidarity greetings to it’s International President, Zoughbui Zoughbi, who lives and works in Bethlehem doing interfaith work for peace through the Wi’am Centre.
