The #ObjectWar Campaign – an alliance that includes many FoR partners around Europe – has organised a week of actions on behalf of conscientious objectors. Fellow members in Austria and Germany are engaging their Parliaments and FoR in Switzerland is holding a converastion.
Central to the campaign is a demand that the right to conscientious objection be respected in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus – all three of whom are currently persecuting conscientious objectors. This is of particular concern because all these nations are signatories to global agreements that reference this right and many people hold an objection to war due to personal religious belief.
The UK was the first nation in the world to grant legal status to conscientious objectors. Our voice on this topic is important so we invite you today to write to your MP and ask them to lobby the Foreign Secretary, asking him what he is doing to advocate for this basic human right.
