Thirst for Peace in UK Churches

This year has seen a major increase in interest in material to use on the UN International Day of Peace. This shows there is a real “thirst for peace” in the UK churches. Over 300 requests were made via online forms, phone calls and face-to-face conversations for the prayers, children’s activities and sermon notes.

This growth in using the material has been matched by the emergence of a number of local ecumenical services where people together across church traditions to pray for peace in the world. This mirrors the regular ‘Prayers for Peace in Ukraine’ that the Fellowship has been running ever since the conflict started.

John Cooper, Director of the Fellowship, said “This growth shows there is a real ‘thirst for peace’ in the UK church at the moment. It’s important we continue to improve our material as the interest is there. It’s energising and encouraging to hear of local ecumenical prayer groups, these are often the starting point for amazing and inspiring local action”
