A Prayer for Haiti

News reports emerge that over a million children are currently trapped in areas caught up in the gang violence in Haiti.

We share a prayer for peace in Haiti written by Rev Dr Leslie Griffiths. It can be used in your church and your own devotions:

  Dear Lord,

 We give thanks for the land of Haiti;

A nation whose story is

one of struggle for freedom and justice;

As we think of the darkness of the present moment,

dear Lord, keep us mindful of the principals of fraternity,

equality and liberty laid down at the moment of independance.

We pray for the people of Haiti now –

their land laid bare by the rapacity and heartlessness of so many within and outside the country.

We pray for its communities –

at the mercy of kidnappers, gangs,

money launderers and drug runners,

who undermine the nations dream;

And we pray for all peoples of good will,

they will pledge themselves to work with the Haitian people

as new leadership seeks to bring order,

dignity and respect

out of the dark dungeon of their present chaos.

May your breath of peace come to life

in this sacred Island.                                                       AMEN
